Alan Vega attended Springsteen’s 20 Jul 2005 show in Bridgeport, CT. “I’m still high from that show. Now I can die. Not only he’s playing ‘Dream Baby Dream,’ but it’s the big encore song, the last song of the show,” Alan Vega told Backstreets Magazine in an interview. “A lot of bands have done my stuff, Suicide stuff […] Thank god, finally somebody did their version of it. He interpreted my song, he did it his way, and such a great way that I’m going to have to sing it that way, or not sing it at all anymore!”

James Blake’s part of this track was revealed during his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, and has been refixed with a few bars from Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA. He posted it to his Tumblr this morning, and I’m sure glad he did. This song is a good example of the continual beat deconstruction narrative pushed by act like Shabazz Palaces, Why?, and others. I like hearing RZA  is hip to it, even if the song’s a tad awkward at times.

Don’t be fooled by his falsetto, and impish demeanour of England’s Blake, either. The guy is a real capable producer, and with word that he might be working with Kendrick Lamar, expect even more unexpected risks taken on the boards.

Overgrown drops next Tuesday, but it leaked this morning.
